Where do we begin?
We'll start with Wed. Dec 16th (I hope I get the dates right). We packed up the car and headed to Grand Rapids, MI to spend Christmas with Aarons family. We were going to leave Thursday bright and early, but we decided that it might be easier for Trevor if we left later Wed. night and then Trevor could sleep the whole way there. I guess it was wishful thinking on our part. It was about a 9-10 hr drive, we left our house at 7:30pm and Trevor slept MAYBE a total of 3 hrs. YIKES. The good thing, he never fussed or cried. He just sat in the carseat and laughed and talked to us. He was trying to keep daddy company while mommy slept. We got to Grandma Barbs house @ 5:30am (4:30am our time). The bad thing was, when we got there, Trevor was NOT ready to sleep yet. He ended up staying up until 7:30 am. Yeah, he was almost up for 24 hrs straight. But, he was happy. We finally all got to get a little bit of sleep before Trevor was up at 11am. He was all off schedule, but he was a trooper. The first day in Michigan we didn't do a whole lot. We had to go buy the rest of stocking presents for Trevor, since we weren't going to have any time to go before Christmas. Then we decided to be lazy the rest of the day, since we were all running on fumes.
Friday AM we woke up to about 12 inches of snow on the ground. WOW.... it was a TON of snow. Aaron and his mom ran to Best Buy while Trevor and got to sleep in. It was so nice. We spent most of Friday indoors since the weather decided to drop about 14 inches of snow total that day. Friday night we went to Aaron and Kristins for dinner. Trevor and Morgan had fun playing together and the adults had a few drinks and caught up with each other.
Saturday we woke up early and had to head up north to spend Christmas with Aarons dads family. They live about 45 min north of Aarons mom. We spent the morning with his immediate family and had brunch. Then the rest of the family came up and we got to open the rest of our gifts and played. Trevor loved playing with all his cousins. He doesn't get to spend time with them, so it's always fun to see them play together.
Saturday night we left Aarons dads house and went to watch the Grand Rapids Griffins (hockey team). Aarons mom had a suite for work. It was soooo much fun. Trevor LOVED it. After the game we stepped out of the arena to MORE SNOW. That night we got another 8 inches.
Sunday night we woke up to TONS of snow and ice. We had to drive another 45 min to Aarons moms sides Christmas. We almost bailed, but decided to tackle the snow since we never see anyone and really wanted to see everyone. It really wasn't that bad of a drive once we got on the main roads. For some reason they don't plow side roads for a day or two. It gets pretty messy!
We spent some time with Aarons moms family and then we all headed back down to Aarons moms house and spent time with just his immediate family and opened more gifts. It was nice hanging out with Christy aand Page and the kids. They are all getting so big.
At this point we were getting really worried about our traveling home the next day. Aaron ended up buying a plane ticket for Trevor and I, since we didn't want to screw Trevors schedule up again and it's tough for Trevor to be hooked in a carseat for 9-10 hrs. So, Aaron was making the trip home by himself. I was VERY worried.
We watched the weather and checked roads and kept fingers crossed that things would clear up for the next day.
Monday we woke nice and early and Aaron drove Trevor and I to the airport. Aaron was taking a different way home to try to stay clear of weather. That didn't happen though. He still ran into weather. Luckily, he made it home in time to help with Trevors bath and put him to bed.
Overall, it was a GREAT long weekend. Even though we managed to make our trip there during one of the worst snow storms in 30-40 years!
